They said this year's theme of the day -- Go Wild for Life -- is time-befitting and wished success of all programmes of the day.

President Abdul Hamid said forest resources and wildlife are essential for environment and biodiversity as well as human existence.

The President said the government is very much sincere for protecting environment and wildlife as it has amended the Environment Conservation Act-1995 and formulated the Wildlife (conservation and security) Act-2012.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said environment and biodiversity are at risk due to increase of population and human-induced activities, which are contributing to rise in global warming.

Referring to different steps for safeguarding environment and wildlife, the Prime Minister said, "We have attached priority to protection of environment as well as wildlife to ensure our sustainable development."

Different government and non-government organizations have taken elaborate programmes to observe the day.
