AL leader shot dead in Teknaf Correspondent, Cox’s Bazar:

Assailants shot dead a local Awami League leader in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early on Monday.

Sirajul Islam alias Siraj, 68, was a former union parishad member and the president of Teknaf Sadar union unit of the Awami League.

He was shot at home around 03:30am. His wife Yasmin Akhter, 45, was also shot.

Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said masked gunmen entered Siraj’s house and shot him, leaving him seriously injured.

“He was taken to Teknaf hospital where doctors declared him dead. His wife was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.

“Siraj might have been attacked over previous enmity,” added Majid.
