Flood situation to improve at most places

Thereport24.com Desk:

The flood situation in Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Bogra and Kurigram will continue to improve in the next few days as the water levels in the Brahmaputa, the Jamuna, the Dharala and the Ghagot are falling.

But the situation in Rajbari, Manikganj, Munshiganj and Shariatpur districts will deteriorate slightly as the water level in the Padma continued to rise in 48 hours, reports BSS.

Water Development Board's Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) Executive Engineer Sajjad Hossain told BSS that water is likely to fall further in the rivers in next few days.

This will improve flood situation in the districts beside the rivers in the Brahmaputra and the Padma basin, he added.

He said, in last 24 hours, the water level in the Dharala at Kurigram fell by 18 centimeters (cm) while in the Ghagot at Gaibandha by 17 cm, in the Brahmaputra at Chilmari by 17 cm, in the Jamuna at Bahadurabad by 18 cm, at Sariakandi by 9 cm, at Kazipur by 7 cm and at Sirajganj by 5 cm. But water is still flowing above the danger level in those areas.

The water levels will continue falling in next few days, causing improvement in the flood situation, Sajjad Hossain said.

He said the water level in the Padma might start falling after 48 hours, resulting in improvement in the flood situation in adjoining Rajbari, Manikganj, Munshiganj and Shariatpur districts.

According to reports of 90 water monitoring stations today, river water increased at 46 points and fell at 39 points. Water is flowing above the danger mark at 18 places.
