HC orders to freeze Tampaco owners’ bank accounts Correspondent, Dhaka:

The High Court today issued a rule asking the authorities concerned as to why the owner of Tampaco Foils Limited in Tongi shall not be directed to give compensation to victims of the September 10 fire in the packaging factory.

BSS news agency reports a High Court vacation bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das issued the rule, holding hearing on a writ filed by Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (BLAST), Ain o Shalish Kendro and Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA).

The court also ordered the central bank to freeze the accounts of the owners of the factory, allowing him to withdraw money only for compensating the workers.

Bodies of 38 workers have been recovered so far from the rubble of the factory, while seven are still missing.
