WB to give additional $1b for Bangladesh childcare in next 2yrs

Thereport24.com Correspondent, Dhaka:

World Bank (WB) President Jim Yong Kim has said the WB’s wing International Development Association (IDA) will disburse an additional USD 1 billion fund for Bangladesh over the next two years to develop the state of child health and nutrition here in this country.

Kim discoed this at a joint press conference after holding talks with Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the latter’s office in Dhaka on Monday.

In response to a query on WB’s involvement on Padma Bridge construction previously, Kim said the global lender would instead spend the USD 1.2 billion (bridge funding) for climate related financing in Bangladesh.

Finance Minister Muhith said that a few years back, when Kim took the charge of WB, there had been a trouble between Bangladesh and World Bank regarding Padma Bridge that has been resolved.

“Now, we (Bangladesh) maintain good relations with WB,” Muhit said expecting that the global lender will allot more funding for Bangladesh.

Kim arrived in Dhaka on Sunday on a two-day visit to see progress Bangladesh has made in transitioning successfully to a lower-middle income country and will participate in an event on the occasion of International Day for the Eradication of Poverty in the capital.
