HC orders judicial inquiry into sentencing Tangail schoolboy

Thereport24.com Correspondent, Dhaka:

The High Court (HC) has ordered a judicial inquiry into sentencing a schoolboy from Sakhipur, Tangail, for allegedly threatening the local lawmaker by making a comment on Facebook and acquitted the ninth-grader from the charge.

A High Court vacation bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order on Teusday, reports BSS.

The court also ordered the secretaries of public administration and home ministries and inspector general of police to withdraw Sakhipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and officer in-charge (OC) of Sakhipur Police Station Mohammad Maksudul Alam from their current offices and to give them posting outside Dhaka division "for fair investigation".

Earlier on September 20, the High Court acting on its own motion, asked the two officials to appear before the court and submit their explanations over sentencing of the boy through a mobile court.

Acting on the High Court order, the boy too appeared before court on September 27 and narrated his ordeal.

Supreme Court lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan brought the attention of the court to a report of a daily that said the boy was given two-year imprisonment for making a comment on Facebook regarding Tangail-4 lawmaker Anupom Shahjahan.
