ACC for penalty for failure to provide services timely

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recommended penalizing the government servants in case of their failure to provide services within the stipulated time.

The anti-graft body made the recommendation in its Annual Report -2015 submitted to President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Monday afternoon.

He also apprised the President of different aspects of the report, BSS reports quoting President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin.

He informed the President that in the report the commission made 32-point recommendation in seven categories. It said land administration, land registration and land survey should be looked after by a single authority to check corruption in the land sector.

Bills for power-gas-telephone should be issued by a single office and every office should hold public hearing, maintain audit report card, community score card and conduct social audit to increase transparency and accountability.

Other recommendations include bringing all government purchases under e-tendering, monitoring properly the tender processing and purchases and separation of the activities of cost estimation and implementation of construction works from each other.

During the meeting, the ACC chairman informed the President that some 22000 "Satata Sangha" has been constituted at school level across the country to build anti-corruption attitude among the children. Such "Sangha" will be constituted at all educational institutions gradually, he added.

President Abdul Hamid expressed satisfaction over the activities of ACC and asked the ACC to make it sure that corruption-related cases and the investigation are based on information.

He also asked the ACC to take steps so that none accused in corruption allegation can avoid punishment. He also emphasized on building awareness in the society against corruption.

ACC commissioners Nasir Uddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam and secretaries concerned to the President were present.
