Storm 'Kyant' moves in west-south westerly direction over Bay Correspondent, Dhaka:

The cyclonic storm 'kyant' over east central bay and adjoining area moved slightly west-south westwards over the same area (near lat. 16.70n and long. 89.90e), said a press release of Bangladesh Metrological Department this morning.

The storm "Kyant' was centered at 6 am today about 645 kms south-southwest of Chittagong port, 575 kms south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 640 kms south of Mongla port and 590 kms south of Payra port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-southwesterly direction, it said.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls and sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.

Met office said, "Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two."

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, the release added.

Meanwhile, in association with rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary south east or easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong & Cox's Bazar wherein river-ports shall hoist cautionary signal no one.

Light rain is likely over Khulna, Barisal & Chittagong divisions and weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.
